ECWAR admins, temporary guardians, volunteers and group members can receive tax receipts for items purchased on behalf of the rescue that have been approved by the rescue. These include cat food, litter, gas for approved transportation and other supplies for rescue operations, such as outdoor shelters, trapping equipment, etc.
The form below is to be filled out, with receipts prepared and attached following the instructions listed below.
For the 2026 calendar year, this form and attachments must be submitted before January 20, 2027. ECWAR will review the request and, if approved without question, will send you a charitable receipt by email through CanadaHelps prior to the end of February 2027.
WHAT TO DO:
RECEIPTS
All applicable purchase receipts should be numbered at the top with a dark pen or thin Sharpie, starting from 1. Use a pen rather than a highlighter, as highlighters break down over time, making the item difficult to read.
Each purchase receipt must have the donated items plainly marked by circling each item and its cost with a pen.
Circle the date.
At the bottom of the purchase receipt, write the total amount requested in pen.
DO NOT INCLUDE GST, as it is not eligible under CRA rules.
Please note that ‘services’ cannot receive a tax receipt. Only purchased goods.
Take a photo of each receipt in vertical format, as in the example.

Click to download the receipt spreadsheet, then fill in the requested information for each receipt. When you open it, you can make the columns wider. The example information is still in the spreadsheet to assist you. Please delete it and fill in your own information.
If you have multiple cats in the house, some of which are your own, and you’ve purchased shared items for all of them (like litter, certain food, toys, etc.), please indicate the percentage of each purchase spent for ECWAR cats. If a purchase receipt is all for ECWAR cats, the percentage would be 100.
When finished, save the spreadsheet. Use your last name as the spreadsheet name.
Submitting Your Receipts
Fill out the form.
Attach the completed spreadsheet.
Attach the receipt photos to the form.
Submit the form.

If the form is not filled out correctly or the attachments are not in the correct format, you will be asked to correct the issues and resubmit. Please don’t overwork our finance volunteers by not doing it right. Get help if you need it.
